5.7 Magnitude Earthquake Hits New Zealand Captital Wellington

An earthquake of 5.7 magnitudes was felt near New Zealand‘s capital Wellington on Wednesday. The US Geological Survey (USGS) gave this information. The USGS reported that the quake occurred at a depth of 74 kilometers (50 mi) below the Cook Strait that separates the North and South Islands.

Wellington, on the southern tip of the North Island, has been affected by the cyclone for the past week. Four people have died in the floods and landslides caused by the cyclone in the capital. According to the USGS, there are currently no reports of casualties from the earthquake.
