A tweet recently went viral, claiming that Spotify is now implementing an ‘age cap’ feature. Since then, the tweet has garnered millions of views and has been reshared extensively.
Netizens on social media platforms also began sharing their opinions about the viral tweet. According to the tweet, the platform has put a maximum age limit on songs, meaning it would limit certain groups of people from playing certain music.
Spotify’s ‘Age Cap’ Tweet Dominates Internet
Despite the tweet making waves on the internet, it should be noted that the streaming platform has not made any such changes.
On April 24, 2024, user @soren_iverson made a viral tweet about the streaming platform stating:
“Spotify “age cap” means you can’t listen to some artists if ur too Old.”
Included was a screenshot showing Olivia Rodrigo’s music on Spotify with a notification that states:
“Aren’t you a little old to be listening to Olivia Rodrigo?”
The pop-up message reads:
“This artist has an age cap set at 25. Since you’re older than this, you can’t listen to them.”
To date, the tweet has garnered 7 million views. Users older than 25 can breathe a sigh of relief because, as we mentioned above, it is not real. It is a fake screenshot made by designer Soren Iverson who, based on his website, “creates absurd versions of the apps we interact with on a daily basis.”
This is not the first time his fake tweets have garnered attention. In the past, there were numerous instances where his tweets dominated the internet. Earlier, he published a coffee table book that features around 365 (one per day) of his “unhinged interfaces.”
Because of his smart and creative ideas, he has been featured in Wired, Reuters, and SF Gate, to name a few.
