Craig Kelly Blames Hackers For Pornographic Post on His X Account, Old Trend By Politicians Repeated?
Craig Kelly denies explicit tweet, claims hacking. Past political hacks scrutinized. Australian Federal Police warns on social media security.
Craig Kelly, the former Liberal MP, has announced that a tweet involving pornographic content, shared on his X, formerly Twitter account, was not done by him but rather the result of a hack. On Sunday, a 24-minute video with the caption “Horny sister seduced by her brother’s friend” was posted on Craig Kelly’s account from another account.
Later, the post was deleted from the former Liberal MP’s account. Kelly posted, “My account is still hacked — the offensive item has been removed (it’s not on my page) but it is still appearing on people’s pages.” Additionally, he also attached a screenshot to his post from an earlier message that read, “Earlier today, my account was hacked. I have reported this to Twitter and reset my password, ‘Ugly stuff.'”
Who is Craig Kelly?
For eleven years, Craig Kelly was the MP for the Queensland seat of Hughes, winning for the first time in 2010. Until the beginning of 2021, he represented the Liberal Party. However, later he resigned and sat on the crossbench. Towards the end of 2021, Craig was appointed as the “leader of Clive Palmer’s United Australia Party.”
In the 2022 federal election, Craig lost the seat to Jenny Ware, the Liberal MP. According to his Twitter account, he is currently the national director of the United Australia Party. SBS News contacted the United Australia Party for comments from Craig, according to reports.
‘Blame the Hackers’: A Way Out?
In the past, politicians have blamed hackers for posts related to pornographic content on their Twitter accounts, including Christopher Pyne in 2017 and Greg Hunt. However, the Australian Federal Police investigated the matter and announced that hackers were not responsible for this.
Andrew Colvin, the AFP commissioner in 2018, said, “I think social media hygiene is an issue that we all need to be very conscious of. That is about who has access to your Twitter account, how many people have access, do you know who has access to your Twitter account.”
