Noland Arbaugh, a paralyzed man becomes the first person to play chess with the aid of a brain chip. A chip is created by a start-up called Neuralink, for the disabled community to make them function like a normal person as it is implanted in the brain.

On Wednesday, a video was posted on Twitter/X featuring Noland’s astonishing achievement. Ever since the video has gone viral on the internet generating around 70 million views.

This January, Noland got his hands on the chip, developed by Elon Musk’s startup and later implanted in his brain through surgery. The technology aims to enable individuals with paralysis to communicate with computers.

During a live stream with Elon Musk on Twitter/X, Noland Arbaugh stated that he is fully paralyzed below the shoulders and has lost any feeling in his body, legs, and arms. About 8 years ago, he suffered a severe diving accident that dislocated his C4 and C5 spinal vertebrae.

During the live stream, he also talked about his procedure, stating-

“The surgery was super easy. I literally was released from the hospital a day later. I have no cognitive impairments. I had basically given up playing that game, you all (Neuralink) gave me the ability to do that again and played for 8 hours straight.”

Last month, Reuters reported that U.S. Food and Drug Administration inspectors found some issues with the quality controls and record-keeping for animal experiments at Elon Musk’s Neuralink, less than a month after the company announced it had been cleared to test its brain implants in humans. However, Neuralink has not responded to the report.
